One day changes everything.
In one day, Jesus’ disciples hopes shattered. They watched as their friend, teacher, and Lord was arrested, unjustly tried, beaten, and crucified. It was likely the darkest day of their lives and they would never be the same.
In one day, the darkness crumbled. Several women went to Jesus’ tomb to anoint His body, but when they arrived, an angel declared that Jesus had risen from the dead. In one day, their mourning was turned to wonder and their sorrow was erased. In one day, Jesus’ mission was fulfilled, a mission that still resonates with us today – forgiveness of sins and eternal salvation for all who choose to believe in and follow Jesus.
In one day, Jesus will set all things right. He will return as the victorious King of all. He will abolish sin and suffering forever and will establish the good and just kingdom we were always meant to have. In one day, there will be an end to tears, an end to pain, and an end to evil.
A lot can change in just one day. If you’re struggling today, I pray you’ll remember that today is not all there is. Look to the cross. Look to the empty grave. Look to the powerful King who will one day rule perfectly. Remember that life is a series of “one day”s and that the days that feel darkest often lead to the best of days.
“Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead!” Luke 24:5b-6a
