Author: candlesutton

Candle Sutton writes suspense novels from a Christian worldview. While her primary goal is to entertain, Biblical themes are woven throughout in a non-preachy fashion. She firmly believes that fiction is a powerful tool and that God can and does use it to encourage, challenge, convict, and change His people. Sutton is a Christian saved by grace, who loves Jesus and tries to live for Him. The beauty of God's creation captivates her, especially anything having to do with water. She enjoys a simple and quiet life in the Northwestern United States. Watch for Nameless, the first installment in the Sinister Secrets series, available spring 2020.

Eternal Refuge and Everlasting Arms

On May 12, 2019 By candlesuttonLeave a comment

"The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." Deuteronomy 33:27a   This verse speaks to me on several levels. I love the image of God as our refuge, sheltering us during the fiercest of trials and storms. We often don't recognize that He's sheltering us. Sometimes His sheltering comes in the …

How Do You See Jesus?

On April 21, 2019 By candlesuttonLeave a comment

Happy Resurrection Day, everyone!   “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!" Luke 24:5a-6a.   Where do we look for Jesus? How do we view Him? Is He still the beaten and bloody man nailed to the cross? Is He the "gardener" who appeared to …

Join the 3 Legged Race!

On April 16, 2019 By candlesuttonLeave a comment

Have you ever watched people participating in a 3-legged race?   If the people tied together are in tandem, they can make really good progress. But what happens if one of the parties decides to do their own thing?   God gave me this image as I was confessing my divided heart. See, sometimes I'm …

What Happened to Common Sense?

On April 7, 2019 By candlesuttonLeave a comment

I'm sure we've all heard the saying that common sense isn't so common. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why that's true?   I think Proverbs gives us a few clues on this topic. Proverbs 9:10 states "Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good …

How Do You Reach Others?

On March 16, 2019 By candlesuttonLeave a comment

Do you believe your words have impact?   A week ago, I was at a church small group and one of the ladies shared about a Sunday School class she was taking through her church. The class was about gender identity and sexual orientation - specifically, how do we as believers approach people of alternate …

Your Story is Powerful!

On February 3, 2019 By candlesuttonLeave a comment

There is power in YOUR story!   Do you ever feel like your story doesn't matter? That you know you should share the gospel, that you should tell others about what God has done for you, but that you don't have a great story to tell?   Trust me, I'm right there with you.   …

The Beauty of God

On January 21, 2019 By candlesuttonLeave a comment

Why is there beauty in this world? Have you ever stopped to ask yourself this question? I did, just the other day as I noticed a beautiful sunrise. Yes, there's a science behind the sunrise, I understand that, but ultimately, we have beautiful sunrises because God created it that way. But why? What is the …

Are You Muddy?

On January 12, 2019 By candlesuttonLeave a comment

Sometimes being a dog owner gives me a very dim glimpse into what God must see when He looks at me.   The other day, both dogs came in coated in mud. They'd been having a great time playing in the back yard and had gotten filthy in the process.   They didn't see a …

What is Your Image of Jesus?

On December 25, 2018 By candlesuttonLeave a comment

Merry Christmas!   As we celebrate the day Jesus crossed from eternity into mortality, I want to ask you something - how do you picture Jesus?   Is He a helpless baby in a manger? Is He a rock star thronged by the masses? Is He the compassionate healer who reaches out to the hurting …

The Son Makes All the Difference

On December 21, 2018 By candlesuttonLeave a comment

Most of my novels have been written over a series of lunch breaks. True story! Often, I sit in my car on my lunch break to write.   Fast forward to winter. I hate the cold, so sitting in my car and shivering as I write ranks pretty low on the list. Yet to really …
