My Way or God’s Way?

Do you ever get frustrated when things don’t work out the way you think they should? It might be in the big things or it might be in the day-to-day things, but if we’re honest, we’ve all been there.

I’ve been there more often than I like to admit. In those situations, I often pray for results – the results I want – and try to give it over to God, but get frustrated when things aren’t moving forward. Can you relate?

Yet time and again, when God opens the right door in His timing, I’m able to see how much better God’s door was than the ones where I tried to force my way. I’m so thankful that God’s blessings aren’t dependent upon the level of my faith!

God is so patient with us during these times, isn’t He? He consistently gives us the message to simply trust Him. God is infinitely wise and He owes us nothing at all – the blessings we receive are because of His great love, not because it is our right.

It reminds me of one of my favorite chapters in the Bible – Isaiah 40. Verses 13-14 really sum it up: “Who is able to advise the Spirit of the Lord? Who knows enough to give Him advice or teach Him? Has the Lord ever needed anyone’s advice? Does He need instruction about what is good? Did someone teach Him what is right or show Him the path of justice?”

So next time you’re frustrated, next time your plans have failed and you’ve run into brick walls all around you, look to the Lord. Seek His ways. And remember that they are always better and higher than our own.
