The Higher Perspective

Isaiah 55:8-9 – “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

These verses are quoted often – and for good reason. We need the constant reminder that God’s ways don’t mirror ours and they are far superior, for He sees the big picture, not just the here and now.

It’s interesting that He uses the heavens and earth as comparison points. The heavens are God’s home and we are all stuck here on earth – a good illustration, perhaps, of the vast chasm between God’s ways and our ways. In addition, think about the different vantage points. When you’re standing on the ground, say in the middle of a field, you can see very little of the world around you. But what if you were in a low flying airplane above the field? You’d be able to see so much more!

It’s the same with God. We see what’s immediately in front of us (sometimes we don’t even see that clearly!) while God sees the past, present, and future.

So if you find yourself in a place of uncertainty, look to God. When your plans fail and your efforts seem to amount to nothing, trust Him to work it out. He may be working in ways you can’t even fathom!
